Mowing

Capital Lawn Care Mowing Service

Mowing is more than just cutting blades of grass. Here’s what we take into consideration for every week during the season.

  • Mowing Height
  • Sharp Blades
  • Weather Conditions

Mowing Height

Minnesota seasons can be unpredictable so mowing at a proper heights is important to manage weeds and overall health of the lawn. Allowing for grass to stay healthy during the growing season in the spring requires a higher cut. Oddly enough the shorter you cut, the faster it grows and with applying fertilizer in the spring, the grass needs to be kept under control. In the warmer months, allowing for the soil to stay wet as possible to avoid drought requires height adjustment as well. As we cool off towards the end of the season, 3 inches is normal but 3.5 is ideal as an average for the rest of the year. Unfortunately we don’t live in an area with Bermuda grass where you can mow to get that golf course look.

Sharp Blades

One thing homeowners don’t do that affects the health of their lawn is not going into the season with sharp blades. 4 times a year is recommended to avoid the consequences. They include disease, discoloration, or possible grass plant death. We at Capital make sure we have sharp blades every time we step on a lawn. Every month, pick off a few blades and make sure you don’t see THIS.

Weather Conditions

We can’t control the weather but we can control the quality results based on the proper decisions each week. Avoiding a week is something you won’t see at other companies because it affects profits. In the hotter months during a Minnesota summer we don’t lightly when comes to burning out lawns. Sometimes we may need to mow higher for a week or skip it altogether to the consequences of stressing out the lawn.
